'Hoops for Autism' Game Raises Funds to Train Kids on the Spectrum

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA For basketball enthusiasts, nothing compares to the thrill of a clean swish through the net. However, at Sunday’s "Hoops for Autism" event organized by the Central Alabama Jaguars, the true joy stemmed from helping an underprivileged group.

"I experience an adrenaline rush from playing, and it feels great to contribute to children who aren't able to fully enjoy these experiences. So, if we can perform for them, that's something we really love to do," explained Jaguars player Anthony Thomas.

The competition generated funds for the team’s recently established "Bounce Buddies" program, which focuses on a basketball training initiative for children with autism.

"We foster an environment all their own, whether through sensory tools or simply engaging in basketball training overall, making this a space for them to feel at ease and express who they truly are," stated Bryishun Pernell, leader of the Bounce Buddies initiative.

Should you or anyone you're aware of be interested in joining the program, additional details can be found at the team’s website .
