Samsung SDI Eyes Expansion: ESS Battery Products Set for European Launch
Samsung SDI-battery exhibition
SEOUL, April 28 (Yonhap) -- Samsung SDI, which ranks as South Korea’s second-biggest battery manufacturer, announced on Monday plans to showcase its most recent energy storage system (ESS) batteries at an important European battery fair scheduled for next month.
Samsung SDI announced in a press statement that they will participate in InterBattery Europe 2025, which is among the major exhibits at The Smarter E Europe. This prominent European energy sector fair is scheduled for May 7-9 in Germany.
This year’s exhibition will feature an array of advanced next-gen batteries, particularly highlighting their ESS tech tailored for the upcoming AI-driven age.
The showcased items will feature the U8A1, a newly designed battery intended for use in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, along with the Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.5.
A UPS serves as an essential backup system that delivers emergency electricity to places such as data centers when there is a power failure.
The SBB 1.5 enhances safety through advanced direct injection (EDI) technology, spraying extinguishing agents directly onto battery modules to stop overheating and thermal propagation.
The announcement stated that Samsung SDI is the sole Korean battery firm to have been shortlisted as a finalist for The Smart E Award during this year’s ceremony.
The Smart E Awards recognize groundbreaking products and technologies spanning five sectors: energy storage, electric mobility (e-mobility), solar power, intelligent energy solutions, and exceptional initiatives.
