Scaramucci and Kinzinger Assess Trump's First 100 Days: A Candid Look at the President's Performance Card

Former White House Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci, is rarely lost for words. But ask him to set out the positives to date of the second Trump presidential term and you get close to a short answer. He manages the grand total of just two such examples of Trump policy wins.
“There is going to be crypto-friendly, pro-crypto regulation. I see that as very positive. I think they've done a good job on the border.” And that is about it.
On the other side of the ledger, there is no shortage of ammunition. The first 100 days of Trump 2.0 include some dire economic numbers.
Specifically, the equity market has plummeted. US based stocks have notably underperformed the rest of the world. Little wonder that international investors have swerved US assets.
Furthermore, we have the significant bond market downturn along with the steep depreciation of the dollar.
Regarding diplomacy, Trump initiated conflicts with America’s long-standing allies. He also did not miss many chances to escalate his economic dispute with China.
Scaramucci is now thoroughly engaged as he evaluates the policy failures during Trump’s initial 100 days in office.
"This isn't beneficial for the U.S." - Scaramucci
The worldwide trade conflict, along with the erratic and unpredictable nature of Trump’s approach to international relations, his disregard for our Western European partners, disputes with China, Canada, and Panama, as well as the harsh remarks about Greenland so far—all of these factors are detrimental to the U.S. This situation does nothing to support America.
"MAGA — sort of awakening": Kinzinger
Former U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger displays slightly more optimism and considerably greater positivity compared to his previous assessment of Trump’s initial 30 days in office.
I believe that the Make America Great Again narrative is starting to awaken. It hasn’t fully stirred yet—we’re only within the initial 100-day mark. Given even up to 150 days, people aren't likely to acknowledge their mistakes so quickly. They might never concede they were incorrect. If some begin to realize this internally, they’ll probably concoct an excuse not to own up to it. So, I doubt there will be a significant epiphany for them; instead, there’s going to be a sense of letdown.
And here’s the issue with Donald Trump: When people view him as this almost divine entity and then they realize he's just a regular person who can make mistakes, that's when things start falling apart. The risk associated with acting like a cult leader or an infallible deity is immense because perfection must always be maintained. Once you show even a hint of imperfection, your vulnerability becomes evident. This is precisely what undermines his position.
When it comes to signs of recovery, I've noticed a couple emerging. Had you spoken with me 20 days ago, I would have expressed far greater concern. Despite continued risks, individuals such as Scott Bessett, who managed to get Trump to ease up on tariffs somewhat, demonstrate they hold a degree of sway, which is positive.
Tariff approach: 'Hang Up the Phone' - Scaramucci
Scaramucci firmly maintains that foreign leaders should not succumb to bullying. Regarding tariffs, he provides the following counsel.
Put down the phone. Observe how President Xi and Prime Minister Carney handle dealings with Donald Trump. Should you attempt negotiations with him, he will dominate you and likely belittle you. He can be quite vindictive. My advice is to avoid interacting with him altogether; minimizing your interactions increases the chances that he'll return to make a deal with you.
Let me share this with you, Carney: He wouldn’t contact Trump. Instead, they reached out to Carney and stated, “I won’t take the call unless after we speak, I’m addressed as Prime Minister Carney, and my nation is called Canada.”
So, he cannot use the terms 'governor' or mention anything about being a '51st state' in his follow-up communication after the call. Carney stated that if you and your team aren’t ready to agree to those conditions with me, then I won't proceed with accepting the call. Naturally, they complied accordingly. Trump referred to him as Prime Minister Carney instead and mentioned Canada, treating it like an independent nation. In my opinion, this seems to be the most effective way to manage him. Brown-nosing Donald Trump is entirely inappropriate.
'America Is Fed Up' - Kinzinger
Kinzinger contends that the general populace is more effective at expressing discontent with the administration compared to what Congress is accomplishing.
I’m noticing many Americans taking to the streets, which holds significant importance in this nation. This isn’t limited to rallies in cities like New York; people across all towns big and small throughout the country are participating. There are millions involved, and this has occurred within just about a hundred days. To me, this indicates that America is at its limit. People are rising up, and this collective action stands as one of the strongest defenses for our democracy.
‘Congress-the biggest disappointment’
And naturally, the final safeguard present right now is the Supreme Court, which seems to be maintaining its stance.
The greatest letdown in the United States is undoubtedly Congress. As outlined in Article One of the Constitution, Congress holds primary importance as it is responsible for making laws. Meanwhile, the role of the President primarily involves safeguarding national defense and enforcing these congressional statutes. However, what we have inadvertently established is something akin to an imperial system. In time, Americans will realize that this self-proclaimed authority may not be as robust or legitimate as perceived.
