Greensboro Man Claims Caregiver Stole $12K, Leaving Him Bankrupt and Homeless

A man from Greensboro is now dealing with significant financial hardship after claiming that his previous caretaker took more than $12,000 worth of money orders meant for his expenses and home loan payments.

Andre Hubert, who has received disability benefits over the last twelve months, alleges that Ebony Worrel, his temporary caregiver, took advantage of his confidence and precarious finances.

Hubert, claiming he has known Worrel for almost three years, observed inconsistencies in her financial records and suspects that she was responsible for taking the money orders. He asserted, “I am certain she took them.” Up until now, just one of the missing money orders has been found, having been redeemed by someone close to Worrel.

Due to the supposed theft, Hubert now needs to sell his house. He stated, “This situation has made me declare bankruptcy… I’m trying to salvage my home.” Lacking the money that was stolen, Hubert can’t keep up with his mortgage payments and risks losing the one property he has always called his own.

Worrel has been taken into custody and faces charges related to the exploitation of a disabled or senior citizen along with felony theft. She is presently waiting for her trial which is scheduled for later this year.

Even after the legal process, Hubert still lacks the $11,000 in vanished money, which was originally meant for his retirement nest egg.

What she did when taking the money was intentional," Hubert stated. "She knew exactly what she was doing.

This scenario underscores the susceptibility of people with limited means and the catastrophic effects of financial abuse. As Hubert pursues accountability, he confronts the daunting task of reconstructing his existence without the assets he previously possessed.
