TOKYO (Cryptonesia) – Japan’s chief currency envoy Atsushi Mimura refuted a report from the Yomiuri newspaper on Monday. The report had quoted U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as stating during a two-nation conference involving Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato in Washington that a depreciated dollar and an appreciating yen would be preferable outcomes.
Kato and Bessent held their initial direct discussions on Thursday during the margins of the IMF and World Bank gatherings.
Mimura stated that there were no conversations about foreign exchange objectives during the discussions.
