'The Last of Us' Season 2, Episode 3: Seth's Shocking Transformation

In Naughty Dog's game The Last of Us , there’s one character who gets an opportunity to attempt making amends for displaying clear-cut bigotry. Nonetheless, in the HBO series , he does a much better job.

Seth (Robert John Burke), a resident of Jackson, directs homophobic insults, including an offensive slur, towards Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced). smooching during the New Year's Eve prom . Seth's actions in The Last of Us The series are equally detestable as they appear in the game, but the difference lies in what he does after that compared to Naughty Dog's rendition.

The day following the dance, in the game, Seth is compelled by Jackson’s leader, Maria (played by Rutina Wesley), to apologize to Ellie prior to her departure on patrol with Dina. In an attempt to reconcile further, he provides them both some sandwiches to carry during their journey. However, Ellie hands over these “prejudiced sandwiches” to Jesse (portrayed by Young Mazino) instead.

On the series, Seth goes beyond merely providing sandwiches. During the Jackson town assembly, he firmly backs Ellie’s suggestion to form a team aimed at hunting down those responsible for killing Joel (played by Pedro Pascal), even prior to hearing her full case. Later in the same episode, as Ellie and Dina plan their secret departure to pursue Abby (portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever) and her group, Dina mentions knowing someone who could supply them with all necessary resources such as weaponry, medical provisions, and ammunition needed for their operation.

As Ellie realizes upon reaching Jackson's fenced boundary, that man turns out to be Seth. He steps out of the darkness alongside Dina, prepared to exchange Ellie’s pistol for a sniper rifle. After facilitating this swap, Seth assists them in their getaway by keeping an eye out for approaching patrols before they discreetly exit through a side gate.

Equipping Ellie and Dina for their escape on a vengeful quest doesn’t undo Seth’s homophobic behavior. However, it’s far more of a forward-thinking act compared to simply offering them some breakfast rolls and making him apologize unwillingly.
